10. Adam and Eve are not our ancestors-2

Some people argue that God must have created more people than just Adam and Eve. That the Bible doesn't say God only created Adam and Eve'. This defence is a valid defence against the incest problem associated with Adam and Eve.

"Adam and Eve had two children that we know of, Cain and Abel. When they grew up, Cain (or was it the other one?) went off and found a wife. Just where exactly did this woman come from?"

-"Trouble in the Garden" by Adrian Barnett 1998

It appears God must have created more than just Adam and Eve.

What does this mean in practical terms for the original sin? When did God create these people? It must have been:

Before the fall or after the fall.

If God created the extra people before the fall then are we led to believe that all the people God created also chose to eat from the Tree of Knowledge? This doesn't seem to make sense, because when Adam and Eve ate of it he appeared to them and told them off. God has quite a presence and it would no doubt be enough to scare off anyone else from eating from the tree! Either God let them all eat, knowing none of them had the knowledge required for them to distrust the serpent or to understand that disobedience was wrong, in which case God is shown as an immensely poor parent. A parent knows that his/her children do not know not to touch a hot pan. So, parents warn their children not to. When their children go to touch the pan, the parent does more than just warn them. Because the parent knows that the child is not capable of understanding why not to touch the pan, the parent steps in and physically protects the child. God did not do this with Adam and Eve and anyone who was around: God did not protect His children from the danger. God is shown as a bad parent.

God must have created the extra people after the fall. But this seems to be wrong. Because that would mean that God was creating imperfect people who were not the children of Adam and Eve. People who are not the children of Adam and Eve would not suffer from death or diseases (which are the effects of original sin). So God created these extra people and created them with weakness to death and disease on purpose. If this is true, if God created these people like that, then original sin doesn't explain death and disease as these people were not subject to the original sin.

The explanation that God created more people than just Adam and Eve shows us that the Adam and Eve story is not a valid excuse for death "entering the world". God himself created death and the Adam and Eve story is merely apologetics on behalf of fearful God believers who wish to think of Humans as evil due to our own actions, and not due to Creation. This shows God in poor light.

So, I would like to conclude that when Bible was written there was no Darwin to explain the theory of evolution. And it is disappointing that even in this century many believe the story of Adam and Eve. According to me this story was written to show that sinners would be punished by God, and it is only my view. Do you agree with me that Adam and Eve are not our ancestors?

James finished reading the chapter and couldn’t stop thinking about the contents in this book. This chapter was only a sample from the book. If this chapter is able to raise so many questions then what about the whole book thought James and he slept off.

While sleeping, James had a strange dream. A black figure killed DD and ran away. Near his body there was a huge ellipse drawn with a tree inside that. The tree started to fly all off a sudden. James too flew along with the tree and landed in a forest. Inside the forest there was a man and woman who were not dressed. It must be Adam and Eve thought James. A snake slowly hissed past James and went near Eve and made strange hissing sounds. And Eve replied the snake with similar hissing sounds. ‘When did Eve learn Parseltongue? Was she a Parselmouth by birth? ‘, thought James. Then Eve went near a tree and plucked a fruit which resembled Apple. She offered the fruit to Adam and he accepted it gleefully. They saw James near them and Adam offered the fruit to James. He replied, “No thanks” .

Adams gave him a pat on his back and said “Wake Up, James”. James opened his eyes. It was not Adam with an apple, it was Rudran with the bed coffee in his hand.

James said, “Good morning”.

Rudran asked, “What were you dreaming?”

What a strange dream it was?

A page from the diary of SOS-11

It was dad’s birthday. It was special because, it was his fiftieth birthday. A stranger came home that day. It was an old woman, with the creepy looks of a witch. Dad was surprised to see that woman. He then introduced here to me that she was his step mother. And her name was Groenewald Marthmari.

11. Deciphering SOS

James told Rudran, “I can’t remember the dream Rudh. I stopped taking bed coffee without brushing from this New Year. I will catch you after brush and bath”

Rudran said “Ok James” and left the room.

They both had their breakfast. James switched on the modem and connected to the internet in his laptop. He opened the Internet Explorer and Google which was his homepage opened. He searched the term SOS. The first result he obtained was Wikipedia’s explanation on SOS. The content of the site was:

SOS is the commonly used description for the International Morse code distress signal (· · · — — — · · ·). This distress signal was first adopted by the German government in radio regulations effective April 1, 1905, and became the worldwide standard when it was included in the second International Radiotelegraphic Convention, which was signed on November 3, 1906, and became effective on July 1, 1908.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

In popular usage, SOS became associated with phrases such as "Save Our Ship", "Save Our Souls", "Save Our Skins", "Save Our Stuff", "Shoot Our Ship", "Shoot On Sight", "Sinking Our Ship", "Survivors On Shore", "Save Our Sluts", and "Signal On Sand". It is mostly known by "Save Our Ship" and/or "Save Our Souls". However, these phrases were a later development, most likely used to help remember the correct letters—something known as a backronym.

‘The word backronym means reverse acronym. So could SOS be a reverse acronym in the case of the murderer too. If so what did that mean?’, James was thinking all this. And he saw a hyperlink in the same page stating about SOS (game). He clicked on that and it took him to a page where the explanation about the SOS game was given. It read:

SOS is a (usually two-player) game played with paper and pencil, typically played by children. It is similar to tic-tac-toe but with more complexity.

Before play begins, a grid of n × n squares (with n being 3 or more) is drawn. The first player to move (which can be chosen by a coin toss or the roll of the dice) writes either S or O in one of the squares, whereupon it becomes the second player's turn. The second player has the option of writing an S or O in an empty square.

The object of the game is for each player to attempt to create (on their turn) the straight sequence S-O-S among connected squares (diagonally, horizontally, or vertically), and to create as many such sequences as they can.

If a player succeeds in creating an SOS, that player immediately takes another turn, and continues to do so until no SOS can be created on their turn. Otherwise turns alternate between players after each move.

Keeping track of who made which SOSs can be done by, e.g., one player circling their SOSs and the other player drawing a line through theirs.

Once the grid has been filled up, the winner is the player who made the most SOSs. If the grid is filled up and the number of SOSs for each player is the same, then the game is a draw. If the grid is filled up and no SOS has been made, then the game is again a draw.

‘Nice game’, thought James, he has never heard of this game. He has played tic-tac-toe. But SOS seemed to be far more interesting game. ‘And does the murderer have any connection with this game?’, James could not make up his mind. He switched on the TV so that he could spend some time relaxing. Making his mind free could make him think in a better way.

He did not stick to one particular channel. He was switching from one channel to the other continuously and finally he settled on the history channel. A program titled the beasts who ruled us was broadcasted. The program on that day was about Adolf Hitler. After around fifteen minutes of broadcast there was a commercial break. The first advertisement had a boy stealing cream biscuits and consuming them, it was some biscuit advertisement. The next advertisement was of Sprite drink, some actress was telling that it was her favorite drink. James’ OOBT worked at that instant, he remembered about the ellipse photo and the sprite bottle inside that ellipse. He thought whether this advertisement had any connection with the next murder.

James used Google as his companion once again. He searched the term Sprite TV commercials India. He got the result as Angelika. He searched about actress Angelika in Wikipedia. The information he got was shocking.

A page from the diary of SOS-12

Dad introduced me to her as his adapted son. I was surprised at her arrival. Dad had never spoken about her in all my years with him. She told that her son had a rift with her that his dad didn’t give any of his property to them in his will. And, her son was more like her unlike Sam who was more like his dad. She couldn’t live with her son any longer. So she came to live with her step son, rest of her life. Dad was happy to have her at home. But the first impression I got on her would never change, the creepy witch.

12. The next victim

Angelika was born on 4 July 1978. She is a prominent actress in both Tamil and Hindi film industries. She rose to fame with her roles in Hindi movies, One man show and Never say, Never die.

Born to Ebenezer Jacob Francis and Christiana Francis, in Chennai, the Roman Catholic actress got her higher education in Ethiraj College, Chennai. Later, she modeled and won Miss Chennai in 1996, Miss India Miss Beautiful Smile in 1998. In school, she participated in several cultural activities especially the dramas.

She started her career as a model, appearing in many TV advertisements including that of Royal Jewellers and Fairever.

Angelika first made her debut in films when she was offered a small cameo in the film Love makes life beautiful. However, the first movie in which she signed up to enact the role of the leading lady was Rose by any other name. A string of hits marked the beginning of her career a great success. After a dozen of hits she was signed by Sprite beverages, Nokia Phones and Pears Soap……..’

James stopped reading. ‘She was the connection between the three, Angelika! She must be the next. How to save her?’, James thought. He immediately called Stephen.

“Uncle Steve. I have an important matter to be discussed. I found the next victim, it is actress Angelika”, said James.

“Oh! How did you find James?”, asked Stephen.

“Uncle, I will explain that later to you. We must first protect her”, said James.

James please wait. I have another call”, said Stephen.

After a minute, Stephen came back in line. He told to James, “James, we cannot protect Angelika any more. She has already been murdered. That was the call I received”.

James was shocked. He told, “Uncle! SOS is acting too fast. I would like to be at the place of crime soon. May I know where she was killed?”

Stephen told him the place and James immediately started off. She was killed inside her caravan during her shoot for the film Maiden over.

James has never viewed any film shoot. The place cannot be exactly termed as a film shoot either. It was crowded more with the Press reporters and Police rather than the people who originally to film belong unit.

Angelika was a very beautiful lady. But now she was nothing more than a corpse. What is the motive behind the murder of SOS?’, James was thinking while examining the place.

As usual SOS left a clue this time also. He had left a letter with the following information:

The wall clock inside a mirror will show the time as 3 hours 40 minutes when I kill him, that would be on a prime day. Identify my victim from this: 44-2-777-44-2-0-66-444-3-44-444. You will find it once you stop predicting.

James was very disappointed that he couldn’t save Angelika. He found the next one was Angelika. SOS was challenging him. He was playing with the abilities of entire police department. If he allows this to continue then it would be his second defeat to an unknown stranger.

‘I will get this guy before his next murder’, James made a resolution.

A page from the diary of SOS-13

One month had passed and I left to join my job. One day, I got a phone call from Groenewald Marthmari. She told that, Sam was dead due to heart attack. That was the greatest shock in my life. I immediately left to my home. By the time I left, dad was buried. Since, I was only his adopted son and he had not written any will, all his properties were now inherited by his half brother. I could not concentrate on my work. He was one person who remained in this earth for me and he too had left. I was surprised at his sudden death. I took this matter to investigation. Checked out the entire house and placed secret tapes in my home too. That’s when I came to know about the dad’s step mother’s cruel plans.

13. The Cryptanalyst

The next day, James was called by Steve and informed that a cryptanalyst named Jeffery Francis would be joining me to assist me in my case and he was an expert in solving ciphers.

James was eagerly waiting for the arrival of Jeffery Francis. While waiting, he was trying to solve the clues found at the place of Angelina’s murder.

Clock inside a mirror will show the time as 3 hours 40 minutes.

This meant that the time would be 12.00-3.40=8.20. It might be 8:20 AM/PM. And, that would be on a prime day, means it could be either a week day or a prime number day. That’s when James noticed that the previous two murder dates were 3rd and 5th which were prime numbers. It could very well mean that the next prime number day would be the date chosen for his next murder by SOS.

While James was thinking all this, Jeffery Francis arrived at his home. Jeffery Francis, was six feet tall and he had a pointed nose, the one that reminded Sherlock Holmes to James. He didn’t sport a moustache, he had it well shaved. He looked to be a man with immense confidence.

He introduced himself to James and asked him about the case details. James explained about all his observations, inferences and the clues given by SOS. Jeffery told him that he needed a day’s time to work on those clues and left the place. James was worried that the media was giving an unnecessary hype over this SOS case so that the whole Chennai city was afraid of the serial killer. They had pressed the panic button in the city.

Press, especially the news channels, tries to make money with the hot burning issues which were made hot due to them.

News channel like Swim tone was running polls like:

Who will SOS’s next victim be?

A. Celebrity

B. Common man

C. Can’t say

Will police arrest SOS before his next murder?

A. Yes

B. No

C. Can’t say

James was hugely disappointed with this attitude of the press. But he couldn't help it. The next day there was a hearing for the case of DD handled by Rudran. Rudran was preparing for that case. James asked him the chapter on which he had to argue. It was the chapter ‘What is God?’ and ‘Non-Muslims in Islamic society’ which he was to argue and missed out due to his father’s death. James started to read the chapter ‘What is God?’ so that he may help out Rudran on it. He finished reading that chapter and the chapter next to that was ‘Non Muslims in Islamic society’

A page from the diary of SOS-14

She had killed my dad with poison and made the world believe that he had heart attack. She had done this for his properties which he would have given them, if they asked for it. I planned to kill dad’s step mother, but she died naturally even before I finished planning. My life went into misery due to polygamy. My dad’s life went into misery due to polygamy. Polygamy was the villain in mine and dad’s life. Or rather polygamists were the villains. I had to stop them. I decided to start it from the place where it all began.

14. Non-Muslims in Islamic Society

Muslim propagandists use an attractive motto which says that Islam is the religion of justice and equality. It is the religion of freedom and women’s dignity, they say, but this cannot be proved by mere talk and a loud voice, especially among people who do not know the reality of Islam. It is also true that even most Arabs don’t know the truth about Islam. However, a case is proved by only by presenting facts and empirical evidence.

Muslim propagandists claim that Islam is the religion of equality and justice! Where do you get that idea? Show us! How could that be if Islam says that Non-Muslims whose lands are invaded by Muslims and conquered by force are not allowed to build new religious monuments or even to renovate the destroyed ones? This was what Islam said, and this was the verdict of Umar Ibn al-Khattab who was known as the Just Caliph, as he was called by Muslims.

Tell us where equality is if a non-Muslim’s testimony is not acceptable or even allowed in court against Muslims or even against other non-Muslims, as the most famous Muslim scholars indicate? And of course, non-Muslims do not have the right to assume leading jobs in the state.

Tell us where the justice and equality is in Islam when a Muslim’s life is spared even if he kills a Non-Muslim intentionally while a Muslim may only be required to die if he assassinates another Muslim. The reason, as Muhammad said is that "only Muslims’ blood is regarded equal." Thus, no Muslim should be killed for murdering a non-Muslim. If Muhammad says–according to all scholars–that "only Muslims’ blood is equal" (have the same value), we have the right to ask, "Where, then, is equality?" Muhammad says to us, "I meant the equality between a Muslim and another Muslim and not between a Muslim and a Non-Muslim."

On the other hand, we will see that if a non-Muslim merely curses a Muslim, he must either be sentenced to death or be converted to Islam! However, if a Muslim murders a non-Muslim, he will only pay a fine.

Abu Al-Ala Al-Mawdudi’s View: Discrimination is Necessary!

In his book, "Rights of Non-Muslims in Islamic States" which has been translated into many languages, this great scholar asserts that we should distinguish between the rights of non-Muslims and the rights of Muslims. On pp. 2-3, Abu Ala al-Mawdudi says:

"An Islamic state ... is by its very nature bound to distinguish between Muslims and non-Muslims, and, in an honest and upright manner, not only publicly declares this state of affairs but also precisely states what rights will be conferred upon its non-Muslim citizens and which of them will not be enjoyed by them."

Now let us analyze the rights which are not supposed to be conferred on non-Muslims. We will witness the worst practices of racial discrimination and religious segregation.

A Muslim Must Not Be Sentenced To Death For Murdering A Non Believer!

Muhammad himself gives justification for this. He says only Muslims’ have blood that is alike; thus a Muslim should not be put to death for murdering a non-Muslim but must pay a blood feud to the family of the murdered man. As expected, the great Muslim legists and scholars such as Ibn Timiyya, Ibn Hazm, Al-Shafii, Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, Al-Jalalan, Al-Bukhari and Muslim agree on this important point.

James was surprised reading this chapter. This was a chapter showing the dark side of the laws of Islamic society, especially for the Non-Muslims. Now, James understood the purpose of Aftab Ahmed attending the case. He would have been offended by this chapter and decided to work towards banning the book. But, however hard the truth may be, it is still the truth!

James continued solving the clue, till late night. And he woke up early the next morning to continue his work.

A page from the diary of SOS-15

I returned back to Chennai. I got a new job because of my profound experience in my previous job. I wanted to kill Ebenezer first. But the message would not be conveyed. I collected information about famous personalities who were suspected of polygamy. And selected the candidates where the children where either unaware of their parent or unhappy with their parent.

15. The strange series

Rudran left early in the morning for his argument at the court. And Jeffery came to meet James. He told James that, he found something odd in the post script of his message and he worked on it.

Make out, surely cool VIP.

And from the inferences of James, he understood that SOS was an expert in anagrams. So, he tried to form different anagrams of the PS and finally arrived at

Look at my previous clue.

James was surprised by this, because he never thought in that line and was impressed by the talent of Jeffery.

James asked Jeffery, “Have you found anything else mate?”

Jeffery replied, “I was thinking about it only. But I am not sure with the anagram I worked out. So I did not proceed in that way, because it could misguide us in the wrong way”

James thought for a while before making his reply, “I think I got it. There was a cell phone in the previous clue. And it was a nokia cell phone. In this clue it is given, stop predicting. So let me stop switch of the prediction mode in my phone and type the numbers 44-2-777-7777-44-2-0-66-444-3-44-444, given in the clue”

James had the nokia cell phone too. He typed down the message to get Harsha Nidhi as the answer. ‘It must be Harsha Nidhi’, thought James. Harsha Nidhi was the central minister of information technology. He had gained a high respect in the society. And he had never lost a single election he had contested. He has been the Member of Parliament for the past 17 years.

James immediately called Steve and informed him his findings. He told Steve that it must be Harsha Nidhi and he must be given high protection. Steve had confirmed that, SOS hadn’t killed Harsha Nidhi and adequate protection could be given to him.

Though, James asked to keep this matter highly confidential because SOS may come to kill the minister and he could be arrested on his attempt. But, the news somehow got leaked to the press and they it was made the hot news. James was working on collecting the information about Angelina and Harsha Nidhi and he tried to find a pattern or similarity in their profile.

One obvious similarity was that they were all famous personalities. One common feature between Angelina and Harsha Nidhi was that they were married twice. Other than that, there seemed no connection between them. Five days passed in the investigation of this and in that time, James had formed a good friendship with Jeffery. Jeffery was an orphan and was staying in solitude. That day, James thought that ‘it was tenth and the next day eleventh was a prime day, SOS had not chosen the previous prime day may be because of the security. SOS may make an attempt tomorrow!’

James’ thought turned out to be true. Harsha Nidhi was killed the next day by SOS. He was killed in his bathroom. He entered the bathroom, to have bath and never returned. After an hour, his security guards, grew suspicious over his prolonged bath and broke the bathroom door, to find that he was dead.

SOS had left a clue this time too. He had written some strange symbols with his sign.

The extension.

EJF

- SOS

I'm feeble, polite ogre.

PS: To filthy, new path.

James arrived at the crime scene and was surprised that SOS had succeeded once again. Full security had been provided to Harsha Nidhi and still they had failed. James noted that, the clues given by SOS are getting smaller every murder.

A page from the diary of SOS-16

I wanted to play a game with the police department, the cat and rat chase game. All my life I had been solving the puzzles. I formed certain puzzles with my candidates. I had decided to give that as a clue to the police department. I wanted to match my power with the police department. The shock of my dad’s death had created an alter ego in me of which I was very much aware of.

16. Does ghost not exist?

Jeffery came to the home of James that night and told him that he was surprised that the police could not save Harsha Nidhi. He got the clue from James and told that he was keen to crack it even faster. James provided the clue to Jeffery and told him that, he had already solved an anagram.

The extension,

Could also be written as: The next one is.

SOS had given the symbol as a clue for the next person. James could not decipher the symbols though.

Jeffery left to his home. After becoming the friend of James in a short period, he had received the book, Religion an encyclopedia of superstitions from James, to have a read. He thought of reading the book, before sleeping.

There is a firm belief in Hinduism about the presence of soul. When the soul satisfies its desire it reaches God. Else, it remains in the earth as a ghost. Even Christians believe ghosts. Ghost is one common belief among the religions mostly, apart from God. For those who believe in ghosts I have few questions to ask them!

People would definitely agree with me that like a computer has a CPU, a human being has a brain. Like the RAM, ROM storage devices used in the computer, brain is used to store the thoughts.

So, how would a ghost think without a brain? How would it remember? Where would it store it’s memories?

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Jeffery stopped reading, it was boring for him. He had known all this before itself. It was nothing new to him. He thought, ‘I would have chosen the wrong chapter’. But he didn’t reverse his decision to close the book.

James called him up. “I had deciphered it Jeffery the symbols were pretty simple. I had once read in a blog about an easter egg in notepad. The twin tower attack represented by Q33NY! Do you know that? This clue was similar to that”

Jeffery replied, “Oh! Great James! Good job! But I cannot understand it clearly. Can you explain it to me tomorrow? Now I am feeling very sleepy” and ended the phone call.

James was surprised at Jeffery’s lack of interest.

James solved it because he was good at remembering things.

Q33NY when typed in notepad with the font wingdings gives the following symbols.

Q33NY

It was an easter egg in the notepad, which predicted the future. James typed down all the symbols from A to Z in wingdings font, and observed it.

A-A

B-B

C-C

D-D

E-E

F-F

G-G

H-H

I-I

J-J

James stopped with J on seeing the smiley symbol J.

EJF was deciphered by James as EJF. He didn’t know what/who EJF was? But he was sure that this was the solution. To filthy, new path was an anagram of play with the font. And he had played with the font.

A page from the diary of SOS-17

I had used my pet name SOS for the police to get confused. I used to sign my letters or clues or messages as

SOS

I'm feeble, polite ogre.

It was a clue for the police which they had not solved and would never solve. It was an anagram of “Miles to go before I sleep!” It meant that I would be continuing my murders.

17. Stylish, cute mails

James called the commissioner and asked him whether he knew anybody of the name, EJF.

Steve replied, “Yes James. EJF is a very famous personality in town and he is none other than DD’s former classmate Ebe! The one who is the master of diamond business in India”

James replied, “Ya, now I remember uncle. But I didn’t know that he had a name EJF. As per SOS’s clue, he is the next victim. Please provide him full security.”

Steve assured, “Sure James. Mistakes would not be repeated this time around. Our department will provide maximum security to him. EJF is Angelika’s father James.”

James paused and replied, “Ya. I had met him during my investigation. I will proceed with my investigation and try to track down SOS. You meanwhile provide fool proof security to EJF!”.

Before, James finished the call he was put on hold by Steve and James ended the call.

James tried to contact Jeffery who replied that, he was not well and he needed to take rest.

James went to the home of Jeffery later in the afternoon. He had fever in high temperature. He took care of Jeffery till evening by providing him food and medicine. His temperature reduced by evening. And James left Jeffery’s home.

James was investigating about Ebenezer. He had a wife named Christiana and his only daughter Angelika was recently murdered too. He was a very famous diamond merchant in Asia. He was a very rich person too.

Five days passed away, and James was shocked while reading newspaper. It read:

The high profile former head of the IDC, was found brutally murdered in their ransacked Chennai home on Thursday, police said.

The body of Ebenezer Jacob Francis also known as EJF, 56, former chairman and managing director of the Nakshara Diamonds, he was survived by his 73-year-old mother Virgin Mary and his 52-year-old wife Christiana Francis found in their suburban home in T-Nagar.

"The victim's necks were found slashed", a police official said, adding that they had been murdered in the early hours of the morning. Many gold and diamond ornaments appeared to be missing.

Investigations were on to establish whether it was a robbery-cum-murder or if there were other motives, as EJF was a rich man and had his only heir was recently murdered by an unidentified person calling himself SOS, police said.

EJF had been under a cloud. He was accused of stashing sizeable wealth abroad by under-selling diamonds in the European Community through a specially appointed agent in Germany. He had earned a lot of enemies within the state who were jealous of his growth. Police rubbished the rumour that it was yet another murder by the now famous serial killer SOS.

James wasn’t informed of this. He was surprised about this. And there was no information about SOS committing the murder as well. James immediately called Steve.

“Uncle, what’s this? Why didn’t you inform me about this murder? I had been unofficially working on the case right from the start! What’s happening there? I am heavily disappointed with the way you have acted”

“James, remain calm. We think SOS is doing the murder for publicity. But if we change the news and avoid publicity of SOS, he may stop his murders. The psychopaths act in a different manner from normal human beings”, said Steve.

James wasn’t convinced. The next thing he asked was, “What about the clue this time around uncle?”

“Ya. I have it James. Could you come and collect it from me?”

“Ok. I will be in your office in around half an hour”, said James and left to the commissioner’s office.

As James had predicted in the previous murder, the clues were getting smaller after each murder. This time it was a very small clue. SOS had written a letter and it was unusually small:
