18. Call from SOS

James was very disappointed. He couldn’t find a way of stopping SOS. James couldn’t stop worrying. He was heavily beaten. And he continuously defeated. Jeffery, his new found friend was suddenly ill. First time in his life James was losing. But James knew that he could come out of it. It was just a matter of time before he comes out of it.

Three days passed, James had solved that the word was operation and SOS had particularly left the letters p,a,i,n. It may mean no operation without pain or operation without pain or painless operation. It had something to do with the post script. But James hadn’t cracked it. That’s when he got a call, it was a husky voice speaking to him the phone:

“Hello! James. This is SOS! I am amazed at your puzzle solving ability. But you cannot match me!”

Taken by surprise, James replied, “Hello Mr.SOS, I believe, it’s your pseudo name. Could you please give your original name and from where are you speaking? What is the motto behind your murders?”

“I will answer your questions after I finish my next murder. Bye for now James”, SOS had disconnected the call.

James traced the call, it was from a public telephone booth. James was trying to solve heading of the clue Stylish, cute mails! After working on it he found that, it could also be read as This is my last clue.

He was unable to solve the post script though. And when he went to the house of Jeffery, James was surprised that his house was locked. He tried to contact his cell phone, and he repeatedly got a reply that his phone was switched off.

A week passed there was no hint of an attack from SOS. SOS too hadn’t called James after is lone call.

Next day, James got a call from Steve that SOS had committed his next murder. It was Dr.Ravindhra Bhat. James took a close look at the previous clue’s post script: Bat third or darn havoc. After all, it was an anagram of Doctor Ravindhra Bhat. He had been a leading anaesthetist in the Cauvery hospital which is famous for orthopaedics and trauma care.

Now, James understood the clue completely. O_ER_T_O_ meant painless operation and anaesthesia is administered by an anaesthetist before a surgery for the operation for the patient to be free of pain. He was murdered in his hospital.

James left to the hospital and found that there was no clue but an empty sheet with only the sign of SOS and a changed caption.

-SOS

Absolute poet.
